It was an ETB. I got it for just under $55 in the US. Maybe that doesn’t count.
Graded Slabs, Pokemon Center items, and anything valued at over 1k USD have supposedly been banned from vendor inventory at official events
At a recent card show, I spoke to an enterprising 11-year-old, Rob D., who had taken over an abandoned vendor booth to sell cards. He told me he’d been vending for the last year and only bought product from Pokemon vending machines at MSRP. When I asked if he played the Scarlet & Violet games, he said no. He also said he’d never watched the TV show.
“I just flip cards,” he said. “I don’t know much about Pokemon.” He added that he learned about Pokemon investing from watching influencers open packs on TikTok and Instagram, calling Pokemon cards “the best investment right now.”
At the same event, I spoke to well over 150 vendors on the floor. Most of them told me they had only entered the hobby within the last year or so, during the TCG’s recent boom. While some described themselves as childhood collectors, most discussed Pokemon primarily in terms of resale opportunities rather than the games, movies, or franchise itself.

Next generation officially secured. ![]()
TPC: Don’t sell any cards over $1K at our events, it’s bad optics.
Also TPC: Here’s an ultra rare Gengar that we’re only going to seed one in every 5000 packs while we dedicate our laughably stretched printing capacity to printing billions of common Wurmple and Swirlix. Don’t sell it for over $1k though.
Wonder when it finally will boomerang back on them.
In a recent post titled, “Is this the greatest Pokemon Bubble Ever? A First Principles Breakdown” (which was clearly AI generated), some other members floated the idea of slabs doing a 100x from current prices over the next 20 years. Irritated by the irrational belief in markets (of all asset classes) spawned by the greatest bull market in modern history, I told another member that I would wager my entire net worth that these slabs would not 100x over 20 years. They replied they’ve had slabs 100x since 2024 and said I was delusional/arrogant for making my claims. Another member said, "Yeah, 100x in 20 years is only 25.6% per year.”
I want to post here not to elicit drama but to level-set. ONLY 25.6% per year, for 20 years, compounded, without retracing, from prices that have allegedly 100x’d over the last 2, is pure fantasy. No asset class has ever done this. In the thick of an environment where you can buy a 1st edition base set trainer card, sit on it for 6 months, and double your ‘investment’, it is so easy to convince yourself that the music will continue indefinitely. When you are forced by elevated prices to evaluate your collection, thinking about what the value will be down the road, weighing the enjoyment you receive from having a card in your collection vs. what selling it will mean for your family, please take your time and consider potential outcomes for the market that do not jive with what you’re experiencing in the current climate.
If a slab you bought in 2024 for $50 has 100x’d, you’re able to sell it today for $5,000. Inflation represents a sliver of the gain, but in real terms, that is a massive change in valuation. In 20 years, do you believe that card will sell for $500,000? We’re here in a ‘crazy market’ thread because speculative behavior in the hahbee has reached levels beyond many of our wildest imaginations. What conditions would need to be present to precipitate another 100x? More entrants, more capital, more FOMO, a continuation of the tear other capital markets are on, etc.
I know it is a long rant and I know many of us are just collectors who like Pokemon and want the cards for the cards. But if you’ve recently found it impossible to ignore the valuation of your cards, do not get swept up in the trap of thinking the line will go up forever. It will not. It never does. I’m seeing the same mentality I saw during the NFT craze, during early crypto days, during the run up before the housing crisis, before the .com bubble, etc. This time is not different. History does not repeat itself but it rhymes and I’m hearing a lot of folks spit bars on this fourum that scare me.
I’m not trying to cause a panic and I’m just a guy. I don’t know better than the market or its other participants. But I want the best for the people of this wonderful place and I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that irrationality is creeping in and to act accordingly.
Much love <3
maybe if it decreases by 100x at some point inbetween if 2021-24 is any indication ![]()
All it took in 2021 was for prices to stop going up everyday for like a week before the hot money all panicked and dumped. Now prices are 10x higher. I can only imagine what that might look like lol

Cheers!
lets be honest most of the 100x gainz are in psa 10s only because ppl decided to make gamba packs out of them
if you look at any comparable grades such as cgc pristine it has actually performed significantly worse relative to psa 10 coz u cant put them in gamba packs (and cgc pristine is better quality than psa 10 more often than not)
the only similar gainz have been in bgs BL but those buyers were always crazy ![]()
I bought one of these 2 weeks ago for $2. Wanted to get a second one. Now they’re all $8-$10. ![]()
Also… if these are real sales, no wonder PSA is shut down. ![]()
Does Alt normally get those strange high outlier prices?
If anything, that Chansey should be 300$ raw.
its from KANTO and it has the same illustrator as 151 CHARIZAWRD
