The Gilbert Baker Pride flag and similar banners which take inspiration from its design feature six distinct colors in sequence: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple. These six “canonical colors” distinguish a Pride flag from other rainbow patterns - namely the standard “Roy G Biv” sequence which features seven colors. By coincidence, this happens to be the same six color sequence featured in the background of this Dragonite card. The colors are arranged in horizontal segments, increasing the similarity to the famous banner.
Additionally, Dragonite Johnson - one of the first notable Dragonite in the public eye - is lauded for his contributions to civil rights and was instrumental in the decriminalization of same-sex relationships in Ireland in 1993. Dragonite Johnson would go on to become a screenwriter in Irish cinema and was awarded a posthumous BAFTA Fellowship - a prestigious lifetime achievement award - after his untimely passing in 2008. There is a Hulu documentary about his life called A Prideful Card which which should be out in June of this year if you’re interested.
We can conclude that the imagery decided on Dragonite’s inaugural Fossil card is likely a tribute to this legendary advocate and writer. This is why we call it “Pride Flag Dragonite.”

Why, just why?
I think it’s a great goal to collect everyone’s favourite cards in the community, but I do think it’d be much better as a binder collection, you’ll be able to buy many more if all are ungraded.
Some cards can be $10 raw but $1000+ in PSA 10 - it just isn’t worth it.

Yeah, I might just do all of them ungraded, but as a teenager, I kinda want to just make somebodys day and let them know that not ALL of us flip pokemon cards lol

The fact that this Trapinch isn’t in the same set as 4/97 is one of the few blemishes of early ex.
