Long question short: Should I abandon pack collecting to focus on obtaining PSA 10’s or go heavy on packs? (1ST EDITION ENGLISH BASE SET)
Buying the 10s will definitely be cheaper.

Would it even be possible for you to pull the entire base set from sealed product today?
You have four packs, I would highly recommend investing in a $20 postal scale to see if the packs are heavy or not. The sealed packs are going to worth a lot more than the singles.
Single packs now sell between $1200 and $1500. Booster boxes are nice if you have $40,000 to spare. You would need to buy at least a few of these to complete the set.
He wants a full set of 10s so could need more than a few boxes.
Unless you are looking to collect sealed product I highly recommend you go for cards that are already graded. Assuming the packs are unweighted and assuming they have a holo the chances for them grading and 8 or a 9 are higher than getting a 10.
I was told from several members and other collectors to assume the packs do not contain a holo so I have no false sense of hope there. I know how it is opening old packs, very hard to get a 10 especially with the holos. When I finish my 1st edition Jungle PSA 10 collection I will start trading my packs towards building the 1st edition base set.
What is a fair price per pack? I know from being a kid the zard packs were always more sought after but is there any specific reason why? I don’t ever remember getting better cards out of those packs so not sure the extra price other than artwork.
Last ones sold for $1750 if I’m not mistaken but they were from a booster box that was unsearched. You could probably sell them $1500 and have a lot of people go for them.

I would recommend buying the cards in 10s it might take a while but you know what your buying then and guaranteed the grade, even if you open and grade pack fresh cards they are NOT guaranteed 10s if they are off center, or Ive even seen cards come out with edge wear and corner bumps! either keep the pack or sell them and use the money towards the start of your PSA 10 collection.

I love this forum, thank you for all your input! I’ve decided to abandon chasing packs and selling off the ones I have to start collecting all 1st edition PSA 10. I started with 1st edition Jungle and am getting closer to completing the set, after that I will move onto base unlimited/1st edition Fossil.
One of these days I’ll get to the 1st edition base set…*cries self to sleep because I’ll never afford a 10 zard.
