This has come up a few times in the last few days in independent circumstances. I’ve always thought the old CGC blue label was better than the new one. Some people like the new one, and some people are indifferent.
The blue one was quirky and looks great with specific cards, particularly water type holo cards. A bit off otherwise.
But from an actual graphic design/composition/information perspective, the CGC black label is actually the best label available across all of the grading companies.
I like the old CGC label more. I like it because it connects with CGC grading history, specifically with comic book grading. It would be like if PSA changed their label for their comic grades only. It would be weird.
the new label looks soooo borning. The serial number looks really out of place just chillin in the center, and the bar code…I think would actually look better if it were slightly larger and filled that space more, however, I think if they put their bar code and serial number on the back it would look 1000 times better.
I like to match my labels to the card when convenient. Like tstark20 said, the blue label looks great with certain cards. Resale value is irrelevant to me, so as long as the card/slab combo looks/presents the way I want, I’m happy.
+1, it’s why I selected I prefer the old label. (New pristines look much better than old blue label ones imo though) However, more generally, if it wasn’t for the particular kinds of cards I mainly collect matching well with blue, I’d be indifferent.
