Have you hit a point where a card you wanted for your collection is completely unreachable. What was it and when did it come to the point where maybe it was put off too long?

Snap Gyarados and Chunky 3rd place Pikachu increase in value faster than I can increase income

so, it’s always been at that point lol

Every time I thought a card was unreachable I ended up proving myself wrong and setting the goal posts further. So on one hand I think it’s important to not give up and underestimate yourself… but its also important to know when to accept you can’t catch them all and be content with that. I’ve reached that point with a No. 1, 2, or 3 Pikachu trainer.

The TV Tokyo Lottery Ash-Greninja EX 218/XY-P will forever be outside ofnmy grasp. The only Greninja card I am missing, and it just soooo expensive…

Unfortunately, it has always been unattainable to me.

I having more trouble getting sellers to remove Buy It Now cards that are way over priced and it’s like they’ve had the listing up since the boom and haven’t changed it.

Yeah I’ve touched on this before in previous posts. The high end cards that I would be interested in adding to my collection have appreciated in price to the point where I feel uncomfortable spending that amount of money on them.

I think most collectors hit the point where things are “unreachable” for two reasons: price or availability

I’ve more or less accepted that I won’t obtain every gold star, nor every ex, lv x, etc etc etc. Part of it is the sheer amount of money required, part of it is the dilemma in spending that much money on cards and not something else more meaningful. Part of it is also being VERY new to card selling and not fully committed to the idea in the first place

Still, its easier to go about chasing your chase cards if you buy them much less frequently. I guess it feels like you aren’t spending as much as you actually are haha :slightly_smiling_face:

This mindset may not be ideal for cards that are many many thousands of dollars

Pokemon Melee scramble eevee, which is honestly fine. I’m good with not paying $18-20k for a pokemon card

In 2018 I thought that with some planning and saving, I could manage a modern No. 4 or No. 3 trophy in a couple years.

Not the case anymore obviously!

Sealed Trainer decks arent likely going to be in my collection. I can justify a lot for a collection but those prices arent something im comfortable spending on a single deck… especially since the cost of 1 of those decks would finish off almost everything else I need sealed.

Add in a third component: I’m not getting any younger.

It was only a few years ago where I thought I’d try my hand at doing trade ups. Obviously that didn’t fair well and now I realize I could either spend more years to keep moving up, or actually add some different sorts of fulfillment in my life that need more attention.

I’ll never own a Snap Pikachu. With only one publicly selling last year. I believe I read something a while ago there was a auction for it and it never sold.

There are quite many cards I probably won’t see in my collection or PSA 10 sets.

1st ed. japanese Mew gold star

Cheapest of the bunch but they appear only rarely for sale.

1st ed. Typhlosion 17/111

My personal nemesis in Pokemon hobby, almost 10 years ago I started journey to collect all holos in best possible condition yet there’s still one which has avoided me all the time. Back in 2017 I offered to make partial trade worth ~$3500 and even that wasn’t enough to attract even one seller. Nowadays the value for that card is probably 10x.

Skyridge Charizard

5 figure card like T17, at least the availability is much better for this one.

PLAY Umbreon / Trophy Kangaskhan

Winning in lottery would be a start in order to obtain these grails.

Financially I don’t anticipate a card being unreachable but I’d also likely put the blinkers on to anything over 6 figures. Currently I’m most intrigued to find unlimited expedition cards in Japanese. I’m not even sure after reading through previous threads if all cards received an unlimited print. If I take the assumption they did, finding some of my “grail” cards in unlimited might not be possible as they haven’t surfaced in 20 years.

I have already psyched myself up that I won’t get every e-Card …
There’re some I’ll never get due to the price of them or simply because they never spawn in market.
In this category enters:

  • NYC2002 e-Cards
  • Battle Road 2002 e-Card Trainers
  • For Position Only (FPO)
  • Unlimited E1 (Except Ponyta)

I have already psyched myself up that I won’t get some Spanish cards due to I see unlikely them to spawn again in market. Some of these rarely spawn on market for sale.
In this category enters:

  • Some Spanish WoTC Promos

And mostly, I’m aware that I’ll never own Kirby-e (Winner variant). Story goes like this:
In E3 2002, they gave boosters to each person. In these boosters there was a Kirby e-Card. It has 3 variants being the winner the rarest (POP less than 10). It’s said that the Winner e-Card could be redeemed in the event for a Special GBA. Urban legend says that every Winner e-Card was destroyed, but in 2021 one was found and got sold for 10.6K USD. It’s a very interesting story … I should write about that …

Related to researching, I have already psyched myself up that probably I’ll never know exact data of FPO e-Cards.

I haven’t brushed up on my unlimited E1 knowledge recently, but I think we can assume that whatever hasn’t surfaced yet probably wasn’t released (even if it was in the list of possibilites) or was so rare that it might be lost to time. I might just be convincing myself there’s no unlimited E1 Hoppip to look out for though

Funnily enough I just messaged someone last night on here about their Jasmine’s Raichu in English. Not open to selling at the monent.

The only other lead I had on any doesn’t want to share the owner’s details (fair enough) but also thinks it’s unlikely there are many split from the decks and I have no interest in buying a full deck.

I think you’re likely correct but until we know how the unlimited cards were released I will hold out hope. The fact a Geodude has surfaced makes me think the whole set is out there somewhere.

Can you share a photo of the Geodude please? I am a firm believer that we have already seen all the UED e1 cards so Geodude would be a never-before-seen copy
