Carddass Pocket Monsters (Pokemon) Anime Collection

Hi everyone, thanks so much for this detailed info.

Unfortunately, I STILL cannot find any info on these cards I own. I’ve tried looking up by number ect.

If anyone can offer any info on these I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello @GaryTheSnail, welcome to the forums. Lovely to have you here.

Unfortunately, the cards you have might just be bootlegs. These cards, with the prism holo patterns are very common bootleg stickers which just copy the artwork from legit releases, specially the Anime Collection set or even some Pokemon postcards.

Example: Like in your pictures above, there seems to be 2 cards featuring Snorlax, Raichu and Pikachu. One seems to be a holo and the other just a regular card. There is also another card numbered 343, which is a very famous Keiko Fukuyama postcard.

I am not sure how the backside of these cards look like or if you tried to find out if they are stickers, by checking if they peel on one end. Maybe some others can also share their expertise but most likely these are bootleg stickers.

Cheers!

Hello everyone, I’d like to ask you a little help on this topic! Today I had the opportunity to buy the carddass of Moltres, Articuno and Zapdos but I’m really doubtful about the authenticity of the cards, compared to others (non holo) I have.

What do you think? Legit or not? :face_holding_back_tears:

Hello @comiiino welcome to the forums. I think your purchases seem to be legit in my personal opinion. When I double check the gray borders at the back for the holo with non-holo cards from the set, the holo cards seem to be ever so slightly darker than the non-holo cards. The non-holo back borders seems to be more lighter in share compared to the holo ones.

I think your card is legit.

Cheers!

Hello @mrbubbles thanks for your warm welcome and for your reply! I started to collect vintage cards recently and I found this great forum yesterday!

This morning I noticed a couple of additional things such as: the holo cards seem to be a little smaller, thinner than the regular ones and they seem to be more easy to bend.

Is it something that you are also experiencing with your collection?

Thanks

Hello @comiiino also yes. I also just double checked it to confirm and for the non-holo cards, it does feel like proper card stock (more rigid to the touch). For the holo cards it feels very flimsy. It feels like it is just the holo layer with nothing else behind it, almost paper like which seems more easier to bend.

Also, I matched up two holos together and they are of the same size. But matching up a holo vs non-holo, the non-holo card is very very marginally larger in dimensions both in length and breadth. Maybe like less than a mm but it is bigger than a holo.

Maybe someone else can chime in to confirm. Again, I am referencing this by checking my own cards and I hope my cards are legit :pikajoy:

Cheers!

A post was split to a new topic: Are these Cards Real or Fakes?

Hi everyone

Thank you for the guide on this. I just unearth a pile of these from my parent’s place and was trying to find out their worth.

I got lead here after watching the YouTube video on it.

I got a pile of 50ish anime collection cards. Then from this guide I went through and got the “made in Japan” one. Out of that pile I only got 4 non holo and 4 holo which should be legit.

Now I read in this thread that mention the cards from HK, where they don’t have “made in Japan” which are not legit.

Interestingly, all these cards were pulled from vending machine by myself when I was a kid. Yes I was born in HK and moved to Australia in 2000. I was in primary school back in 1998.

They used to have these card vending in the shopping centre underneath the place where I lived and these were pulled from the same location maybe different machines between 1998-1999. Obviously now I know they are dodgy but when I was a kid I didn’t know they were fake.

If that is the case does that mean my holos are fake too assuming they all came from the same location?

Hello @csng, welcome to the forums. Glad the place was able to provide some guidance regarding the cards.

I think the consensus is still in the air whether the cards distributed via vending machines in HK were legit. I think the info posted in this thread heavily covers as to why. At least in your case, from the photos you have posted, the holo cards and the other 4 cards (with the correct copyright) seem legit. If you use the pictures as a reference guide, then I think the holo patterns also match up.

One possibility could be that the HK vending machines had legit cards from legit supply sources for a certain time frame but then future batches the sources started providing counterfeits? This is just heavy speculation on my part but it does beg the question, if they were officially licensed and you pulled all of them from the same vending machine, why change any text and more specifically the copyright date.

Sorry to add to the confusion, but maybe others can provide more help.

Cheers!

A post was split to a new topic: Evaluating the Potential Worth of Unusual Cards

After reading this thread it looks like I’m going to be a bit sad about my collection haha… can anyone tell me what I have here? Top 3 shiny ones have the coloured backs, all the rest have weird red stamp style backs…

Unfortunately they are all bootleg copies. These cards are very notorious to be made as cheap imitation copies. They do look shiny and nice and are probably stickers but are not genuine. Very sorry and I hope you did not pay a lot of money for them.

Cheers!

Hello and welcome to the forum! Just to err on the side of caution, is it possible to provide some better and close up pictures with preferably a straight view? Especially the Charizard and Gengar card.

The text which has the copyright info seems a bit thicker or bolder to me but it is hard to say because I am finding the pics to be unclear. Maybe others can chime in with more certainty.

Cheers!

The 1996 Gengar unfortunately looks fake to me - the colors of the circle on the back should be blue and red/pink. The 1996 Tangelas look real to me though.

I’m not as familiar with the 1997 Carddass cards, the Tangela may be ok, but the Charizard’s front color/holo pattern seems off. It also seems too large but could be camera angle. As @mrbubbles mentioned, clearer pictures will help!

If you have them at hand, compare the size - a lot of the fakes will be a bit too large.

So, I’m thinking this one is fake? quality and likeness seems pretty darn good, but no MADE IN JAPAN.

This pattern you are talking about?

These are considered fake as they don’t have the correct copyright. There may be some slight printing and color differences, but they are very similar quality to the original cards.
