Hey everyone,

The Munch Promos, Poncho Pikachu and Mario/Luigi Pikachu boxes all feel like peak promos from a time in the hobby that is long gone. Do you think these can ever be topped and will there be limited releases like these in the future?

It seems like the Pokémon company is trying to prevent scalping and encourage price control through massive print runs (i.e. 151). There are over 20,000 graded copies of Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat alone.

A good thing I think to take note of is none of those examples were limited releases (except maybe Munch Mimikyu). You could walk into a Pokemon Center and buy virtually as many as you like. The hobby was just a lot smaller then.

I hope they decide to have crossovers from other Nintendo franchises again, however unlikely that may be.

Regardless of the content, if done well, I think they can be topped or met. It would be great to see, but sparingly.

Considering I think the ponchos and mario/luigi are pretty average, I think they can easily be topped

The Munch promos are great and will probably always be top tier for me. The art is just so much better.

This shouldn’t really matter to my objective opinion about the promos themselves, but the interest in the munch promos seems more organic to me. Even if I liked the ponchos or mario/luigi, those things are force fed by social media influencers. I get the feeling people like them because other people like them, not based on fundamentals.

I guess I need to be more patient! Zelda 40th and Pokemon 30th in 2026 XD. How do you stay on top of what exclusive promos are coming out? Is there a good website or newsletters to subscribe to? I’m wasting so much time searching.

I sure hope they learned their lesson and print promos in abundance from here on out. The hobby has grown a ton!, and TPCI is pretty ethical about which promos they release.

The best Nintendo crossover TPC has done in the past 5 years is having an actual Zelda artist draw Pokémon cards, so that’s the current tradeoff. Otherwise the special box promo era in Japan ended in 2021 (2022 if you want to count Precious Collector Box) and is even less likely to come back now than the other Asian languages TPC wants to promote instead

That Skarmory from Paradise Dragona looks awesome.

I would say artwise the ponchos have been topped many times over. From the perspective of really high demand + really limited supply, they are hard to beat though. Especially since TPC seems resistant to producing limited products these days

This is pretty much how I feel as well. I will say I like the Mario/Luigi promos more than the other ponchos just because I like the tie in to other iconic characters outside of Pokemon, but the remainder of the ponchos don’t do a ton for me personally. Conversely, I love the Munch arts and think they just look so good. Even if you don’t like or care about Pokemon you can certainly appreciate those cards.

It makes them more money and solves the secondary market pricing issue so a win-win in their mind. To get the scarcity added it probably has to be difficult to grade.

Munch promos are top-tier. Poncho pikachus are quite meh.

I’m hoping for some 2025/2026 unique collabs or crossovers with upcoming anniversaries however unlikely they may be. Pokémon 30th, Super Mario 40th, Zelda 40th, Animal Crossing 25th.

Animal crossing promo would go crazy

Agree, which product in the last 5 years has been “limited”? Can’t think of any.

In the ereader packs from 2002 there was an animal crossing promo card that was an advertisement then the pack art had Kirby on it. I feel like the chances they crossover again is slim to none, but it is coming on 10 years since the Mario/Luigi was done.

You mean an animal crossing card, not Pokemon card, right?

Yes, it was just a promotion card included in the pack about Animal Crossing. No Pokemon association.

A Link Pikachu Poncho and Zelda Eevee Poncho would break the internet. But knowing Pokemon they will probably release a digital version just on Pokemon Pocket.
