I’ve seen plenty of the double swirls found in Neo Genesis posted on the forum, they look incredible!
My question is did it ever happen on the Japanese side in the old back era?

To the best of my knowledge, the way the holo sheet is arranged for the early Japanese holos, I don’t think it’s possible. I think the weld lines are those lines you see bisecting the big orbs (which appear pretty often). I think the best you can get are the half swirls on opposing sides of the art box.

Adding onto @bbobrob, Japanese manufacturing is too consistent for a double swirl to happen, but I would love to be wrong. I think the orbs were used for alignment where two holofoil sheets met and were welded together. The swirls below (not shown) would thus fall out of the holo box

I do not believe that they can be found on Japanese Neo sets.
