Can anyone who speaks French translate this?

I ordered 7 of those 2018 McDonald’s promo packs from a seller in France. I received this message this morning:

Google translate was no crazy help here but I’m assuming something happened at the customs and the packs will be sent back to the seller in 48 hours unless I do something?

Can anyone help here?

hard to understand this text, as the seller has a particular way of explaining the situation, but apparently your delivery got lost and the french post opened a case to track that lost envelope, in the next 48 hours he will get the results back from the post. If he doesn’t get back the envelope within the next 48 hours, he will reimburse you your money.

My French is pretty bad, but usually Google Translate works fine. Apparently not when the seller uses barely any dots and no commas whatsoever, and has a pretty weird grammatical order in general (since inserting commas at logical places still leaves a pretty confusing message)… >.>

From what I understands after reading it 10+ times is that the post office gave the wrong tracking number. The tracking number that was given is for a domestic order within France, even though your package is supposed to go international. It seems the post office will try to track down the package and/or correct tracking number within 48 hours, but if it cannot be located the seller will refund you instead. The seller unfortunately doesn’t have any of the booster packs you’ve ordered left to send as replacement.

A more fluent translation where some parts are guessed:

Again, most parts above are guessed based on the google translation and French words I do understand. I may have misunderstood some parts, but I think it’s fairly accurate in general.

I cleaned it up for you, but you are very close to the translation. The dude, despite from French has some pretty confusing French language made common mistakes comparable to English your/you’re, their/there, etc.

My guess is:

  1. Seller is backing out of the sale for some reason, making a random excuse.
  2. Seller forgot to put the country of destination, so somehow it is being sent domestically and somehow the seller is unable to stop the order so the shipment will be shipped to the address but in France, putting the package in limbo.

You guys are awesome! Thank you for your help with this!! I’ve messaged the seller back and received two more cryptic replies.

In the first message it seems the seller is saying they can ship me 5 boosters and refund me the rest of the money or something.

But in the second message it seems they have acquired 7 more packs and have shipped them out.

So thank you to all your translating skills. Instead of just asking for a refund, which I would have done without your help, I hopefully will be getting the packs!

I do have another question for you multilingual members, what is the seller saying about the previously mailed packs? Are they getting sent back to the seller?

I would also love to thank @garyis2000 for his extraordinary help in this matter

he still has not received any news from the french post on their status, he was going to call them on Monday, which was yesterday in France. He is annoyed that they take so long to answer him, but he will send you 7 new boosters with a new tracking number.

Btw I hope he communicates better with the post

Haha I hope that’s not the reason it’s lost :stuck_out_tongue:
And awesome, thank you for your help!

Strange update as I originally assumed this was a resolved case. To sum up the events above a seller in France mailed 7 packs of pokemon cards to me here in Canada. There was some problem with shipping and I didn’t receive the original package until a month or so after purchase. The seller sent a backup package in case the first never delivered but said they would cancel it if I received the first and get it mailed back to them.

Today 4 months later I just recieved the backup package. Even though I had let the seller know I had recieved the original.
So naturally I decided to contact the seller and say I’d mail it back to them; however l, it seems the seller has either blocked me or closed their eBay account.

I guess it seems reasonable to block someone on the other end of a confusing transaction just so nothing similar happens again. But I would still feel wrong keeping these packs.

Any advice?

I would honestly just return the package. If you really want to contact, you can ask friends or family to message them on ebay.

I would go on the other camp and hold onto the package for now, until the seller contacts you back (unless you have an easy means to contact them, which you do not have anymore).

Since it’s been months, there’s a good chance that the seller moved, or something happened where he would be unable to deal with ebay issues from months ago. I’m all for return the package back to the seller, but it would suck if the seller is unable to receive the package and then the packs go into limbo or some random recipient gets a hold of the package.

If you want us to check also, give us the ebay name and perhaps we can try helping out contacting the seller.

The seller is my dad, he has gone rogue and given up all technology. He is strictly sticks and rocks for everything now. He said to just go ahead and send them to me. I’ll pm you my address hehehehe

But for real, just keep the stuff, if he was concerned he would most assuredly be contacting you to get them back. He has the ability to contact you and it’s been months and he hasn’t.
