Buyee sniper bid

Quick question. I can’t find it anywhere on Buyee. When you place a sniper bid, is it like eBay where it only goes just over the next closest bid? Or does it automatically place the max bid, and that’s what you pay?

Thanks!

To my knowledge, the sniper bid is just a last minute max bid being placed. It will be for the max bid amount.

So you pay the max? Even if the next closest bidder is way behind?

I reached out to support, but I’m curious what they say

Pretty sure it follows ebay format where it goes for the next closest bid (unless the person who initially placed a bid has also a max bid in place).

your max bid would be placed but you would only pay the next increment bid higher than the previous bid.
For example. Buyer A has a bid for $10 visible to all people but they have a maximum bid hidden from the public at $14
Your Snipe is set at $20, your snipe will be made near the end of the auction for $20 but it will stop itself at $14.50 because that is all that it takes to win the auction. This is true for all ebay auctions, not just sniping services.

My advice is just to put in the max price you are willing to pay and you might get it for less or maybe just at your max bid and if you don’t get it you can feel good that you didn’t feel comfortable overpaying.

Exactly like eBay (I used the snip option a couple of weeks ago and got the item for less than the max)

It’s worth noting that YJA has an “Automatic Extension” feature which I believe is enabled on listings by default but can be disabled - the item info on Buyee will show whether this is enabled or not. If this is active, if the winning bid changes in the last 5 minutes the auction will be extended by 10 minutes - this will continue indefinitely until there is a winner.
