Today’s Question:
QotD: For those that trade or vend, how do you feel when someone manhandles your cards or slabs?
Helpful considerations: Saw a video of someone buying a $500 slab and absolutely abusing the thing to test it. Squeezing, flexing, pulling at corners, prying, tapping, shaking, etc. is that expected now? For binders, what about clearly bending pages when flipping?
I guess I’ll find out if I ever have the misfortune (and fortune
) of vending.

I’ve only been vending for like half a year now, but I’ve never had that happen. Knock on wood, but all my customers have been very respectful of me and my inventory. If someone weren’t, I’d tell them to stop, and I’d take the item back from them.

As a buyer it gives me anxiety when I ask to see a raw card and the vendor mashes their finger into it and asks “this one”? It’s their card and they can do want they want but every time it happens I think “indent I won’t see. PSA6”. Just point

There are sometimes people who unsleeve raw cards to inspect condition without asking. Please ask first! I find it quite annoying, especially when they are explicitly looking for PSA 10s priced at a raw price, and some of my cards are in perfect fit sleeves that are hard to take off if you don’t know what you’re doing. I generally resleeve those into penny sleeves when I sell them.

Worst experience I had was at megacon (London) 2026.
I approached a particular group / collective (4 guys at the same table) of One Piece vendors to see what they would offer me on my Op13 Ace Manga (raw value at the time was ~1500$).
It was MINTY and I pulled it myself.
Instantly the guy took it, whips it out the semi rigid (
) and starts manhandling it.
I’m PISSED but don’t say anything.
He brings up his other mate - east Asian dude - who claims to be a BGS grader (in London, working for these lads…sure!).
He says “can I take it out the sleeve”?
I say no.
He gets pissed, says it’s “dented” and then hands it back to me.
(It’s not dented).
The first guy then proceeds to offer me 1.1k$ based off of cardmarket low list (for a damaged comparison, based in Europe (saying they didn’t need to add on VAT import fees as “they had a guy”.
Told them to stand on a Lego.
Sold it 3 weeks later for $1500.
Probably should have graded it but I saw the market going down for OP and wanted to get some $ back.
I was fuming that they manhandled the card and then lied about condition to try manipulating me into a sale. If I was a noob (imagine a mom or something with kids would fall for this) I may have gone through. Lucky for me I know more or less what I’m doing.

Another answer to the question “why would someone sell you a card and not just grade it themselves”
Friendly reminder than you can still find gradable cards for raw price

I’ve experienced enough of my kids trying to manhandle my cards to know the feeling regardless if i trade or vend
