Dude. Duuuuuuuude. Dude dude dude. Ok I’ve been looking forward to this since, well, since my initial comment some years ago on this here very thread. Oh wow was that right below OP?
Man, the pages look so stellar. What a wonderful set. They enhanceenhanceenhance (SLAP) the already cosmic set to epic proportions. The holo energy choice is just so something I would do so I support the notion.
So funny you were missing pidgeot, the best card in the set! Ha!
And perhaps you may remember my original signature from our original forum, perhaps not. It was
Now of course this has evolved greatly and I definitely do more artist organization these days but those are my roots, that is my default. I am so glad you did this because it looks soooo much better than set order in this case. Wow. And oh how good they look with the 12 pocket, starting even on the first page! Not sure why the pics are a little out of order but it doesn’t take away when you know the dex order and can rearrange with your eyes! Magnificent Rob!
Man I haven’t seen a collection update or even a post this good in ages. You haven’t even mentioned your favorite card or at the very least your top 5. Gushing rn.
So glad you started when it was affordable. It makes me sad, the current environment, so it’s great to see a goal achieved! Major congrats my friend.
Big congrats on completing the set! They look great all together like that. And the holo Energies are a nice touch.
Although I must admit I’m a bit confused by the final binder layout. One Dugtrio is on the second page, whereas the other Diglett and Dugtrio are on page 6; Pichu is split from Pikachu and Raichu; Mareep is on page 8, but Flaaffy and Ampharos are on page 4; etc. Or are the pictures simply not in the correct order instead?
Ah well, it still looks amazing, I was just a bit confused about the ‘almost all evolution lines grouped together’.
@brendantheclayboy@Quuador Thanks to the both of you! Yeah, the pictures were in a really weird order. They were in an odd order in the draft of the post when I was viewing with markdowns (I think that’s what it’s called?), but then it looked normal with the other setting. After I finished posting, it was already late, so I didn’t take another look at it. I’ve fixed the order now, which should help with presentation
Right, I forgot to call out some favorites! As with any of the e-reader sets, there are so many (too many?) great arts. Some of my favorites are Masago’s gritty Blastoise (classic); Umemoto’s wistful Squirtle; Nishida’s Charizard; Kusajima’s Kadabra (the colors and linework on this one are so good) and Weezing (looking so matter-of-fact as something is about to go down); Komiya’s Bulbasaur (praise the sun), Cubone, and Magikarp (love that they’re seeing who can jump the highest); Arita’s Totodile and Feraligatr (another classic), Sawayama’s Tauros, and Sugimori’s Pokemon Nurse.
This makes a lot more sense. I see you’ve put everything in index order , which also explains why Pichu isn’t with Pikachu/Raichu, being a gen 2 Pokémon.
What an incredible achievement!
And yes, the holo mcdonalds energies are the only option here, they just POP. I like how you fit them in!
I LOVEE how you originally collected in the order you obtained the cards, I am currently doing that for my Japanese Komiya master set. I look forward to putting them back in order once I think I am complete!
From collecting so many expedition cards over the years, I have a partially completed second expedition set that I am working on. Perhaps I should finsih it up and do a Pokedex order just like yours!
Naturally, naturally. The blastoise is one of the greatest indeed. Must also agree about the squirtle as it 'tis divine. Nishida’s charizard is also cosmic, especially that lottery holo, but your reverse enhances.
Now the kusajima kadabra is an interesting choice. Respect that. That one sort of flies under the kusa radar a bit. The weezing not so much, that is a banger, certified. Along with pidgeot I would agree bulbasaur is pretty agreed upon, it’s a masterpiece. Well I mean this is peak komiya so yeah, can’t go wrong with any of em.
I expect nothing less than such astute, fine choices from you. What a flawless set. How bout that Keiji switch reverse tho?
@Quuador The Pichu not being with the Pikachu/Raichu is a bit painful, since the whole line is done by Nishida and would look great together. Maybe I’ll try some reorganization in the future
@mthursty Thanks for the kind words! The McDonald’s energies really are the only way to go. Having a chronological record of the order of collection was a fun idea. It’s fun to see and reminisce about certain parts of the journey. Too bad my other collections are largely sitting in piles, waiting to be organized into binders, so they might not get the same treatment
A second Expedition set sounds great (though completing would be a lot more expensive than it was previously)! Would look great with your unlimited E1s
@brendantheclayboy Ah man, the lottery promos are a slight sore spot, because they’re so damn good but just too damn expensive. I’m lucky I picked up the Blastoise and Venusaur a long time back, but I don’t think I’d pick up any more given the prices. All six of them together would be great to slot next to the Expedition set.
Agree that all of Komiya’s arts here are great. Love the Charmeleon and Pidgey too. Took another look at Keiji’s Switch, and it’s also pretty good (and not just because there’s a Hoppip silhouette in the background!)—the Weezing just coasting on back is a great touch
Totally understand, they are among the more absurdly priced things these days. It’s great you got a couple at least, that’s more than most! And blastoise is a prize, he be my favorite. But you’ve got the treasure hall in the set of reverses so I know you’re not agonizing
Huge congrats! Expedition is such an amazing set. It must be amazing to be able to thumb through a binder and see them all together. Side note I love that Geodude
So good to see them together, and i’m very glad you did manage to finish it as the appreciation of reverse holos has been crazy and really surprising, would have loved to see aquapolis and skyridge with them but yeah that’s not happening these days as i’m very close to finishing r&s, sandstorm and dragon i can suggest those as they have been a fun project, even if some of the holos have become annoyingly pricy for what they are. But really difficult to pick only one of them, r&s would naturally go well with expedition as both of them are the first sets of their blocks, sandstorm on the other hand is one of the best sets regarding cohesion, and i can never not recommend dragon as it has my boys in it
About that one seller being few blocks from your place, a similar thing happened for me too as one of my package travelled for some weeks before it eventually got returned to seller, turns out he lived around 1km from my place but choose to send it anyway via mail only for it to end in some sort of limbo, but i did go and pick up the letter from his place after a quick chat + like in your case i ended up buying a bunch of other carde from him too
Also, don’t really understand how you managed to do that with no lists and only geting one double, i have definitely everything i’m missing in some sort of list, even if my non tcg slime army missing list is nowdays mainly a bunch of photos in different places but anyway something i can check if needed, but tcg absolutely listed in a most precise way as i have no trust in my brain anymore hoping also to see the hops, skips and jumps at some point during the next few years!
Ruby and Sapphire also seems like a good choice, and I have some cards from that set too. I just happened to find more commons at the LCS from Sandstorm and Dragon, so I kind of leaned towards those two I actually don’t know the full set list of any of those sets (I don’t know if I’ll be able to blind collect the next set too, so I might have to look at a set list), but from my general feel, R&S seemed to have a lot of stock Sugimori arts mixed in, which moved it down on the priority list a bit (I’m not a hater of stock Sugimori, but when other sets have more non-stock art and good set cohesion like Sandstorm, it is factored in). Anyways, have been focusing a lot on non-TCG recently, so I haven’t delved too much into any of the EX era sets yet.
I was a bit surprised I didn’t double up on one of the holo/non-holo reverses with identical art! I think I did it that way because I liked discovering the set as I was building it (i.e. I didn’t know what all the cards in the set were, and just kind of pieced it together while doing generic searches like “Expedition reverse”). I kind of like the idea of just organically figuring out what cards are in the set. Though, I guess it might be good these days to at least know some of the most expensive ones to see if you can snag a deal with saved searches.
Yes, I said last time I made a non-TCG update that I’d try to do smaller updates to help incentivize posting, but that only lasted that one post I think I’m more than a year behind in updates, so there’s lots of Hoppip/Skiploom/Jumpluff stuff waiting to be shown to the world…
Yeah it has a notable portion of the cards as stock art ones, i think that’s quite okay for the first set of the gen for introduction but naturally it eats from the art section, i do like that a lot of the pokemon have multiple cards next to each others so there’s more character shown through multiple arts, but regardless i do agree that looking strictly at art the two next sets probably give more and as a resident on-off user i sure can’t critizise anyone for not making regular posts so you definitely can take your time with the species posts
I don’t mind the multiple pokemon in the set, but I just found out a few days ago EX Dragon has three common Nincadas. At some point, you have to ask yourself, as a designer, is that really necessary?
