I’m planning on completing a set of PSA 9 holos from Base Set Unlimited. However, not sure if I should wait a bit longer before making any purchases.
What do you guys think of the current prices of Base Set Unlimited holos? Do you think these will continue to retrace as the supply continues to return from PSA or do you think they are close to stabilising now? Do you think the 25th anniversary will have an impact on any of the prices?
I think right now is as good a time as ever to buy most things in Pokemon. Can’t predict the future but once 25th stuff gets closer it’s only going to increase the popularity of the hobby overall. I don’t imagine prices on WotC stuff will get much lower than right now. Take that with a grain of salt.
There were 1200+ base set PSA 9 charizard graded in the past year (16 in the past week), and PSA still has a massive backlog from fall/winter 2020
I believe prices of unlimited PSA 9 will either plateau or decline a bit more through the remainder of 2021. Of course that is just my guess, it’s not certain to happen. But PSA 9 unlimited isn’t too rare. If you’re going for value, they are pretty good. If you want something with a lot more rarity but not as expensive as 1st edition cards, look towards shadowless.
Regarding 25th anniversary, it would have zero impact on WOTC base set. The biggest impact of price IMO is demand of WOTC cards themselves, followed by supply.
