My friend found a flat holo unlimited base set zapdos in his childhood collection and asked if it was fake. It had a black core, good fonts and kerning and the back color all looked good so I leaned towards calling it a holo error. During this inquisition I noticed that on Zapdos’ Thunder attack the first line of text breaks on a different word than 1st edition and shadowless versions which both break after the word zapdos. Your friend likely owns an Incomplete Holo Error, colloquially referred to as a mirror holo. They are pretty rare in Base Set and Jungle, and more common in Fossil.
