Are these packs fake?

Hello folks!

I have been offered several vintage packs for cash (We have not discussed prices yet mostly cause I want a clean look at the packs before accepting)

Looking at em, they look clean and legit. But I’m afraid of me being too rosetinted bout my nostalgia for em and I know scalpers and fakes have been somewhat steadily improving.

Would like your guys opinion on em to determine it

No

All in all, seems legit for all of em? I just gotta do my due diligence on em.

I have seen some fake but it was very noticeable.

What is the consistent giveaway for fake packs these days?

In my experience, the crimping. I don’t think there are any good fake packs. Not that I’ve seen, but if somebody has pictures feel free to post so I can learn. All of these look fine to me.

Got it. I figured crimping of the pack is the best tell tale but can’t be too careful

Is the price too good to be true? They are real packs, but I get a slight feeling like they have been corner checked on some. They are not in very good condition for grading sealed, which also means the cards may not come out in mint condition. They are not rare packs so you can get them anywhere still. I would probably pass on them personally.

Nah. He’s offering the Rocket at 320 and Gym at 275. He’s offering 5% discount if I buy the entire lot.

I agree, it’s not the mint packs but I’m not looking to grade em. Just seeking to put them in my personal binder for display and collection. Maybe open em with my kids if I start one.

And what do you mean by cornered check?

They can be light or weighed, and someone can use some kind of tool to split an already open seal at the corner. They search the pack for what the pull is by peeking inside at the cards, and then close it back up with glue or whatever. If heavy you still get a normal pack but the worst hits.

I looked at a bunch on eBay and most seem pretty rough in general. It may just be normal manufacturing defects.

Got it. That make sense.

But overall looks legit. I dunno how people keep their packs super minty unless taken from a box. I can ask him for more close up on the crimps

He gave me some more on request bout the crimps

The loops on the ends of the packs are pretty common, on both new and old packs. Seeing those loops is a good indicator the crimp seals haven’t been broken and glued back. TCA Gaming has talked about those loops quite a bit, because people will often see them and think they’ve been tampered with:

That being said, I would assume all of those packs have been weighed and that they are all light packs. But that is a pretty safe bet for most loose vintage eBay packs these days, unless they explicitly show the weight of each pack, etc.

Oooh got. Thanks for the informative video!

I just figured I do my due diligence and ask for informed community to help me spot these!

I used to own over 100 WOTC boosters and these look fine to me as the QC on them was never perfect.

Which is one reason I sold all of them. Too many people who don’t know what they are buying questioning tiny imperfections and authenticity or would open and end up with a poor rare, realising they have lost loads of money so try and claim it was resealed to get a refund. With the values of today they are open to so many problems with selling online

Ahh.

Honestly I see your argument with the issue and people trying to recoup losses. Definitely understandable.

Sounds more like people are gambling that all pack is heavy and if not, they’ll try and sell theirs as heavy instead of light or mid

Edit: Isn’t the Team Rocket hard to determine whether it’s heavy or not?
