As in the middle of a transaction and was seeking advice, have emptied this post.

I would say right now its somewhere around $4500-5000, but it depends on what the seller will let it go for really. Sellers will probably still be influenced by that strong 9 sale a bit so it could trend more upwards of that range.

I agree. Centering wouldn’t be much of an issue here, but I’d say the back is far from flawless, the bottom corners anyway. I don’t think you can go wrong around the $4500 mark.

If it weren’t for the recent pwcc sales, I would have said $4000 but it’s just not happening at this point. I believe there has been a recent $4600 sale though I don’t remember the exact condition of the card.

Whoever is that seller, she has some very nice cards.

lol she got another one that would could put in otuch with her need one myself

If it was my card I’d feel disappointed to sell it for less than $5k on ebay at this point in time. If this purchase is happening off ebay, I’d be willing to sell it for a bit less due to the lack of fees.

In the end though I’d say you got a pretty good deal if you pay less than $5k.

True, that’s why we’re saying $4500.. but then again, if she wants to split it in the middle it’s still a solid investment.

I’m not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with anyone here. Just offering my own perspective.

But to clarify $4500 is kinda the rock bottom price I’d sell at if I needed the money. In the current market the only reasonable price for this card is something a bit higher than past comparable sales. There seems to be no shortage of people willing to break the record on this card. These are the people you have to compete with.

True, but OP seems to have found a great source for 1st Ed base cards.. and they’ve been buying $xx,xxx of cards from them recently. So it looks like that seller prefers dealing privately, which means they might earn a little less than if they were to throw it on ebay/instagram, plus a ā€˜fair’ price usually applies for repeat customers.

For me personally, the centering alone would prevent me from paying top dollar. Then again a similarly centered card is currently at $5,100 at auction.. so perhaps it is worth $5k+.

Basically, pay as low as the seller is willing to accept @sgbased.

Honestly, if you wanted to sell one for $5k privately I could hook you up with a buyer, as I’ve been turning down those offers.

It’s really hard to find a price to sell these cards. For whatever reason people keep adjusting their prices instead of picking a number they’re willing to go to and sticking with it.

What should happen is people should want this card and just say I can afford to spend __ amount. So that we can see the highest bidder and second highest and have a consistent price range to go from. What seems to be happening is people keep adjusting the amount they’re willing to spend so we keep getting higher and higher price points. A lot of this is on the sellers as well, rightfully so. No single seller has an unlimited supply, so trying to find the highest paying buyer is the best route to go. Couple that with confirmation bias of other people willing to buy at higher prices and you see the current trend of people continuing to increase the price point. (speculative)

What I’m trying to say is people who are using past sales to justify current market price are missing a huge component that most sellers are aware of. It’s also why I’ve chosen to turned down private $5k offers.

I written like 3 responses to this but I didn’t think they coveyed exactly what I wanted them to.

I think I need clarification. Are you saying that past sales cannot be used to determine value since the value is currently in flux? Or that a lot of people are making very large private offers? Or…?

I’m saying past sales are a tool, and not a guide. Every time I see a post like this I’m constantly baffled by people quoting the low end of the spectrum and thinking they’re in the middle/high end. It’s happened in this thread, it happened in last months thread, it’s happened in last years thread all with the same subject.

Fair enough. I agree with basically everything you’ve said then. But I feel the need to defend my earlier posts because your original reply was in response to mine.

OP asked for a ā€œconservative price to payā€ so quoting the low end is a reasonable response to the initial question here. I also made it clear in my initial post that from a seller’s perspective, $5k is a fairly disappointing price and the absolute lowest price I would ever sell is $4.5k assuming I had to liquidate very quickly for some reason. I also said to expect to pay more than what past sales were since this card just seems to be climbing and climbing. I don’t think any of this contradicts your position.

I was leaving a statement for the forum. You just brought up the topic of seller’s perspective that I wanted to use as a jumping off point, which is why I quoted you.

Ah, I see. Sorry if I was defensive then. I think you’re right about a lot of things so I wanted to see if you saw a flaw in what I was saying. In order to do so I had to clarify both your and my position.

Haha, I didn’t see your text as defensive. There many be a lot of snow flakes on this forum, but I promise you I’m not one of them. Say what you want to get clarification and more importantly don’t worry about my feeling or feel the need to apologize when you haven’t done anything.

Hmm okay, many thanks for the perspectives guys. I’ll communicate the price point and see what she thinks. This is very helpful
